Why RAM prices have risen

Memory prices have climbed sharply. In March 2026, Storyboard18 reported analysts saying DDR RAM prices had surged two and a half to three times, and that laptop and desktop prices could rise by up to 35% in 2026. It cited IDC and Counterpoint Research estimating that PC shipments could fall 7–8% in 2026, with pricing pressure possibly lasting six to seven quarters.

What in-stock RAM costs in India

Stock is as much of a problem as price. At Microcenter India, EliteHubs and PrimeABGB, only 165 of 1,651 RAM listings were in stock on 7 October 2026. Here is what the in-stock modules cost:

8GB suits light everyday use; 16GB is a popular general-purpose step up; 32GB can help heavier multitasking and creation workflows; 64GB is generally chosen for demanding specialist work. Needs vary by device and software.

Laptop and desktop memory
